Perhaps it is the weakness of our legal system and 21st-century humanity that everything is measured in dollars and cents when compensation for misjudgement is discussed, even though restored innocence ought to be deemed priceless (Pardon? No compo!, 7/6). Since no monetary compensation might be bestowed by the state of NSW on Kathleen Folbigg because the legal process was appropriately limited by the available evidence in 2003, she must surely feel warmth in her professed innocence being trumpeted across the world. No amount of money could account for 20 lost years in jail anyway. Her freedom and vindication by the pristine truth of medical science is surely her greatest compensation.
