It is very sad that the death of Mejid Hamzy was not conveyed to his incarcerated brother before being broadcast on TV. His lawyer’s depiction of the slain Mejid as “a true gentleman, loving father and husband” is believable in the context of Middle Eastern culture valuing the supremacy of family. (Hamzy: Slain brother’s death is the will of God, 22/10). Collective family responsibility with the risk of deportation may quell illegal behaviours. Violent Merrylands criminality would not be tolerated in any Middle Eastern country. The vicious, illegal, cowardly murder of any husband, father or son would never be the will of God. Such deeds are not inevitable. Blaming God’s will is not taking responsibility. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 23Oct2020.
