The coroner’s report into dance party deaths has confirmed the view that sound public debate is too often corrupted by emotion (Bitter Pill, October 15). It is impossible to adequately screen pills to give explicit guidelines on individual safety. A young man admitted on TV in January 2019 that he would continue to attend drug parties, after spending several days in ICU recovering from a near-fatal overdose. No amount of education seems to be working. The coroner’s solution is an emotional response to a parental request for pill testing. It must be resisted by parliament at all costs.
