Your editorial on childhood immunisation should be compulsory reading. (The truth is out there. And in here, ST, 31/5). Whether in letters to newspapers, social media or public meetings, the free exchange of information cultivates ideas in forums and stimulates learning. This process deserves encouragement. But, when life and death matters are discussed, the debaters must be qualified. Even a doctor giving advice with evidence based research may be sued (successfully or unsuccessfully) if their information leads to deaths. Does Pete Evans seriously believe that a few Google searches are enough to provide a credible basis for his woeful advice about immunisation? Responsibility comes with dispensing advice.
