Labor senate leader Penny Wong correctly points out that political debate at all levels is ruined by the lack of factual content. (It’s about faces, not facts: Wong, 12/10). Indisputable facts are a force for unity in debate resolution. However, she incorrectly claims that popularity politics is the problem contributing to the demise of good debate. It is the constant use of emotional arguments and language that delivers ill-informed opinions into the public forum. Of such practices, it can be attested that the senate Labor leader is an expert.
