Your editorial correctly  acclaims John Curtin for switching allegiances to the US from the UK during World War Il.  (What would John Curtin do? 6/5). You ask what would Curtin do about modern day rebels like Labor MP Mark Buttigieg wanting to discard our US connections for China. History provides the answer. War historian Hal Colebatch in “Australia’s Secret War” notes that communist sympathisers in the wharf unions sabotaged military equipment loaded on to ships at our ports. So what would Curtin do when faced with challenges to his war effort? Relying on union-controlled MPs, he did nothing. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 7May2020.
