The Newcastle to Queensland Pacific Highway dual carriageway will soon be completed, ending generations of head-on collisions, snail-trail delays through busy towns and road-lock behind caravan-towers without overtaking lanes. (End of road to hell, 10/10). Thanks to the governments which delivered. Shame that the road is now a fast track to a closed border. The headline equating Queensland to “hell” was a touch severe, but our Telegraph deserves some licence with State of Origin around the corner. Meat Loaf and his ‘Bat out of Hell’ hit might better be replaced by ACDCs ‘Highway To Hell’ at the road’s official opening. Disappointed fans at the 2011 Aussie Rules grand final might agree.
