As letter-writer Jennifer Jones (Premier not at fault, Letters, 10/9) points out, the Wagga Wagga loss was a case of voters punishing the local member. The political debate has unwisely invented various other causes of that loss. “Not listening to the electorate” is a flawed argument to criticise our Premier. The majority is mostly silent and we are annoyed when noisy self-interested minorities are continually appeased by governments. The noisy wheel gets the grease. Leadership is more about prosecuting good, evidence based policy which has long-term benefit despite the loud protesters. Darling Harbour would never have been constructed if the leaders of the day like Laurie Brereton had buckled to extremely vocal protesters. Great leadership is based on being right, not being popular. Thank you, Premier Gladys Berejiklian, for your economic management and infrastructure revolution. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 12Sep2018.
