The bail system being in chaos is merely a symptom of a broader diseased morally-bankrupt social and political quagmire that calls itself the court system and vainly professes the dispensation of justice. I feel great sympathy for all those battling this bureaucratic behemoth in their search for fairness on all sides. News that Supreme Court judge Richard Weinstein is applying the latest technology from Apple to track those bailed by his court should be applauded for his attempt to try different technologies (“Bizarre’ selfies check in on bail, DT, 11/8). Ironically, those “senior police” mocking the judge’s decision have surely seen the highly effective use of iPhone tracking to locate suspects in the commission of their alleged crimes. Until discipline is restored at home and in schools, “sparing the rod” will continue to “spoil the child” and there will never be enough police to maintain order. When the priceless quality of respect for parents and community returns to our youth, our courts will be less crowded and I suspect iPhones will again only be used for phone calls.
