It’s not uncommon that careless government solutions to one problem open up a whole new can of worms, unleashing a set of predictable complications which often prove worse than the original malady. Mass immigration to Australia might have promised a boost to employment and economic activity, but the imposition on hospital waiting lists, school places, policing, housing and traffic congestion are proving exponentially worse crises. (“‘Congestion tax was on the table” DT, 16/2). What a shame that our parliaments are also overly congested with Labor Party ideologues fixated on bulk immigration and now testing the waters on a new road congestion tax policy.
