Politics is serious business and actions have consequences. Tuesday’s letter writers were bemoaning the political gap that is being filled by One Nation and offering variable narratives with a strong tone of condemnation. (Letters, DT, 12/5). Since the betrayal of the conservatives by Turnbull-aligned supporters in September 2015, the Liberal Party has redirected  itself to leftist policies in approaching DEI, same-sex marriage, excessive immigration, zero carbon as a solution to climate change and more recently, a dilution of support for Israel. Sadly, this trend is global, pushed by non-government organisations across the West and only recently singularly opposed in the US by Donald Trump. With powerful global institutions lobbying our political classes, one must not expect too much influence from an election result in Farrer when it seems our democracy is ineffectual.
