Many of the Middle East states might have thought hosting US bases offered wartime security and guaranteed safety from invasion. With an unremitting reign of Iran’s ballistic terror across the Middle East, many assumptions have proven wrong. The short-term economic challenges facing Australia are minimal compared to the blood and guts expended on the frontline. Donald Trump is right to completely disarm Iran. Unfettered, a nuclear strike on a communications hub that destroys the world’s internet would be something for Anthony Albanese to seriously complain about. A similar strike on a European capital would be apocalyptic. The PM’s call to end this war without seizing all nuclear material in Iran is rightly ignored by President Trump (“Donald, bring this war to an end: Albo’s plea to Trump, DT, 31/3).
