While the HSC annually extols the excellence of our youth at year’s end, regaling their talents, commitment, application and endurance with their studies, community-minded adults working in the “charitable economy” tend to wait years for their well-deserved OAs. A large contingent of senior citizens heavily invested in community groups like the Lions Clubs of Australia or Rotary International contributes significant volunteerism daily to support the economically disadvantaged. Clubs NSW is to be applauded for hosting its Clubs Community Awards 2026 (“The winners of the 2026 clubs & community awards”, , DT, 15/6). While only a tiny proportion of our clubs were winners on the night, communities across NSW can be proud of the continuing support of their local service organisations. The Vikings Club in Dundas Valley provides tremendous support to community organisations, including the Carlingford Dundas Lions Club and Carlingford Rotary Club. By participating in programs and subsidising room hire for functions, our clubs are surely the beating heart of our caring communities. Thanks Sallianne Faulkner, Rebecca Riant and Clubs NSW for showcasing volunteerism in our challenged streets across the state. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 16June2026
