The many regular readers of The Daily Telegraph might have been amused by the full-page advertisement asking for wannabe journalists to enlist in the exciting National Editorial Cadet Program for News Corp Australia (“Shape the future of journalism now” DT, 2/7). With so many universities offering competitive courses in aspects of journalism, it appears that training in-house on the job is a viable, preferred way of getting experience first-hand within organisations needing the best performers. Being a modern journalist demands objectivity and a passion to follow the paths to truth, perhaps an ethos no longer taught in our leftist, politically woke universities. I suppose letter writers also need not apply. We are an opinionated lot, so pretending to suddenly be unbiased might be a stretch. Multiplying word count would also be a culture shock, suddenly inducing writers block for the first time in our careers as opining correspondents.
