People don’t accidentally become leaders of their party. Popular among fellow MPs and having a credible track record, the calibre of leadership required must surely be superlative by any standards. While the ill health of Senator Larissa Waters forced her unfortunate resignation, there can be little doubt that Senator David Shoebridge is her best replacement. (“Did the Greens cover up complaints over Senator?” DT, 16/10). Having worked with Shoebridge in the NSW parliament advocating against forced organ harvesting in Chinese prisons, a cause strongly supported by Dr Jeremy Chapman and others in our medical community, his courageous focus on ethics was enlightening. The Greens have consistently advocated for women’s rights in the workplace. I expect Shoebridge’s same shining passion for righteousness will quickly ensure that if the multiple complaints by women against WA Senator Jordan Steel-John have substance, he will be called to account.
