Telegraph readers should not be disappointed with the dispute between Nick Coatsworth and Kerryn Phelps. (Health experts clash over timing of school restart, online, 9/1). Perhaps things are getting back to normal. Australians were unused to doctors continuously agreeing on complexities. In the past, we have enjoyed public debate and relished those with common sense whose arguments overwhelmed the ill-prepared. Except for occasional lapses by Queensland CMO, Jeanette Young, the “Covid-speak” has been with one tongue from the same predictable soundtrack. Cynical Aussies are certainly more comfortable when they hear all sides of the argument and surely welcome Dr Phelps’s view. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 10Jan2022.
