History is often uniquely expressed through the eyes of those aesthetically inclined. Artists are well gifted to create insights of 2020 life under the COVID-19 scourge. They might encapsulate the essence of isolated deaths, lives robbed and extol a medical workforce, epitomised by awe-inspiring courage and self-sacrifice. The value of art is its motivation, validating a message with the currency of stonework, literacy and paint. Valuable art communicates meaning brilliantly. The ridiculous “artwork” presented in Friday’s Daily Telegraph appears to be disconnected from common sense and missing a great opportunity for relevance ($7m arts & daft funding row, 18/9).
