The definition of “independents” in this election is surely skewed, with the Simon Holmes à Court backed candidates all singing from the same song sheet and even wearing identical T-shirts. However, I am reassured to hear Andrew Constance branding his past conflicts with PM Morrison as an example of his preparedness to think independently and add to constructive debate. (Constance vows to keep PM honest, 12/4). Such a claim to independent thinking should be applauded. Similarly, I praise Dr Michael Feneley for his outstanding career in medicine and current commitment to debate on unpopular issues of which he is well researched (Lib man backed Medicare cash grab, 12/4). Those ‘yes-men’ benefiting from a captain’s pick ought to become more independently courageous in their battle to make Australia a better place. Hopefully Constance and Feneley are trailblazers for productive debate in the Liberal Party. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 13Apr2022.
