Keeping his head above water after being unexpectedly thrown overboard, Liberal MP Tony Pasin’s young staffer is fortunately back on course and fit to serve for another day. (MP in man-overboard drama, 17/7). While political metaphors spring to mind like “rats escaping sinking ships” and unlikely Liberal protestations “that we are all in the same boat”, it seems fate is demonstrably dampening such hypotheses. Angus Taylor’s low risk attitude to political reinvention seems to match the captain who knows the safest place for his ship is a permanent port. No courageous men of the seas in this Liberal ship of state! As a consolation for Pasin, perhaps the sand, which precipitated his staffers swim might trigger oysters to start producing precious pearls to bring a happy ending to this soggy saga.
