AMA NSW President Danielle McMullen might not be experienced in epidemiology, nor the fine details of how needles might occasionally inflict hepatitis B and C on those paramedics or police officers, who are attacked in the line of duty. (Doctors in spat over spit and test, 12/2). Her point that spitting in someone’s mouth is low risk of infection is correct, but risk becomes 100 per cent if you are the unlucky one in ten thousand who gets infected! I doubt the mainstream of medical opinion would agree with her all-rights-and-no-responsibility mindset. The unions and their amazingly unselfish, dedicated members opposing her extraordinary viewpoint have my 100 per cent support. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 13Feb2021.
