Your brilliantly written editorial on IVF displayed great sensitivity to those participants investing emotionally in the hard road to procreation (ST, 12/6). The requirement for measurable outcomes when public money is spent is not unreasonable. While there are no objectively observed direct outcomes from the effectiveness of day care centres, relative usefulness of police patrols curbing road carnage or teacher performance in classrooms, the outcomes from IVF clinics is actually very focused and well defined. Oversight should never be seen as threatening. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 19Jun2022
