Sadly, the AMA was first to denigrate the government’s empowerment of pharmacists to prescribe. (A script bypass for GPs, ST. 13/11). Until the AMA solves the problem of bush medical cover, their contribution to the debate ought to be criticised. This program will dramatically help our country cousins and the champions of public health must contribute to this trial design to ensure there is access to confidential interview rooms, pathology resources and follow-up of each case to optimise outcomes. A call to a GP or specialist must always be an option for pharmacists. The process is an experiment, and as data is collected, its success or failure will be evident. Where there is a shortage of GPs or a long waiting list, I see no alternative. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 20Nov2022.
