Liberal Party branches tearing themselves apart to enable endorsements for allied party hacks is again topical. (Libs still running fowl after chicken shop fight, 22/2). After a brawl at Dundas, the Arncliffe “chook shop” fracas is surely the last straw for state Liberal director Chris Stone. No Liberal Party candidates should be endorsed for local government elections. Developing good policy for state and federal governments surely stretches the capacity for the party. It could be argued that its policy makers might well be getting better results if not distracted by local government politics. While party powerbrokers may be excellent at executing good policy, democracy may be compromised by lobbying and self-interest.
