News that “soon to be King” Charles conferred an award on Lord Brownlow as a possible quid pro quo for alleged financial help is worrying. (Probe into Prince’s deals, 4/7). Such alleged behaviour risks devaluing all past awards by casting doubt on how well-earned they are. At least Aussie Rules fans can be reassured their Brownlow Awards for “best and fairest” truly regale the reputations of AFL players in the highest echelons of the game, demonstrating to the world how awards should truly be earned.
