Good news coming out of bad might be a rarity, but evidence that the tragic death of Shane Warne has seen an army of otherwise healthy middle aged men and women trotting off to their heart specialists is gratifying (Warne’s change of heart, 24/2). While the unkind among us might protest that the couch-potatoes watching a sometimes boring cricket game are not doing their bodies any favours, the exercise of seeing their doctors might stop this insidious disease in its tracks. With a collateral supply of blood to the heart, multiple arteries must be blocking flow before the busy heart muscle is choked of oxygen. Early diagnosis, cholesterol control and the brilliant input of the best medical system in the world should avail all Australians of seeing their grandchildren. Chest pain is surely cardiac until proven otherwise. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 27Feb2023.
