While the Earth’s weather has surely changed with solar activity and some compromise to the protective actions of the ozone layer, demonising carbon dioxide and methane as causative in climate variation is certainly presumptive. However, if carbon dioxide is actually the core villain in our environmental morass, the cure prescribed is surely illogical. Massively increasing coal, diesel and gas usage now to supply resources to mine rare minerals and then mass produce solar panels and batteries is only increasing the damage from CO2 and accelerating our supposed environmental demise. (“Surge in power pay leaves us all cold”, DT, 26/8). A short life for these panels and batteries demands permanency in the processes required for their manufacture. The profitability of these energy companies is outrageous when so many families cannot afford the luxury of a warm home.
