The melodrama around Vernon Unsworth suing Elon Musk offers lessons to all social media users. (Elon Musk found not liable, Online 7/12). While well-intentioned, Musk’s offer to supply a mini submarine to rescue trapped children was rejected by a perhaps emotionally exhausted Unsworth. Rudely suggesting it could be “shoved where it hurt” might well have validated Musk’s response in the eyes of jury members. The world audience fearlessly jumps to conclusions without being accountable and a limited number of Twitter characters will leave most stories untold.
