Excellent reporting in The Daily Telegraph about what could be seen as inappropriate relationships outside the classroom. (“Teachers cross the line: Lessons in sleaze”, 17/1). The facts of the story are deeply disturbing. The Ombudsman’s report could be criticised for defining the problem in relation to rate changes compared to previous years. A 24 per cent increase in sexual complaints might be trivial if it identifies total cases under 50. But if the increase is about 1000 extra complaints, the issue becomes disastrous. The report of the data could have given actual numbers, along with the annual percentage changes. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 18Jan2019.
