As rampant violence, gang warfare and blatant criminal fearlessness pervades the Merrylands streets, a potential solution is being overlooked. (Kill and be killed, 20/10). Festering in the world of bikie subculture, drug-trading and contractual homicide, a new generation of Middle Eastern youth are learning the ropes. Every criminal’s Achilles heel is his loving mother, the one soul, who never gives up on him. For a nation founded on transportation of criminals, perhaps the legislated threat to deport a criminal’s extended family to the parents’ country of origin might provide the necessary wake-up call. Oblivious to their own self-preservation, the welfare of their families might see more responsible conduct. Nothing else is working and everyone loves their mum.
