In this age of mental health concerns and increasing suicide rate, star footballer Nathan Cleary bravely highlights his anxiety and self-doubt, after getting negative social media. (I’m battling with FOPO, says Cleary, 10/9). Fear of Other People’s Opinions (FOPO) might be understandable among politicians or avid letter writers to these columns, who might occasionally push the envelope, but a footy player is paid to excel at his favourite game. The only downside should be losing. No player always wins. A bad day is quickly forgotten. The cure is to hang up on artificial social media and recall the real cheers of the crowd when you scored your last try. Detractors can suck it up!  Alan Sexton, North Parramatta. 11Sep2020.
