Police Minister Yasmin Catley is correct to praise the NSW Police for their masterful triumph in up-ending the cadre that was the “Commission” an apparent cohort of alleged drug distributors ruining lives and shameless in their disregard for authority. (“The feds let drugs cross the borders”, 20/9). Those championing this operation from within certainly deserve to be regaled by the Police Commissioner and what’s left of her specially-boxed gin collection. However, the Federal Police should not become a whipping horse for the minister. Nobody “lets” drugs into the country. While we import so much overseas produce, lucrative drugs will be hidden like Trojan horses among the millions of storage containers sitting at our ports yearly. Great triumphs worthy of acclaim should not be marred by meaningless point scoring. The AFP has certainly had its successes without bagging the NSW Police. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 23Sept2024
