Having once met Max Markson, celebrity promoter and charismatic wiz, it was not difficult to perceive his remarkable ability to see people at their best and create strategic opportunities for careers, which were not always obvious to other promoters (“Former host can rebuild his life”, DT, 3/1). News that Markson believes that the floundering career of Andrew O’Keefe can be restored by putting him back to work, giving him purpose and getting rid of too much of his destructive spare time might indeed be his panacea for success (“Big call on O’Keefe’s future” – Online, DT, 2/1). In recognising that the fearsome warnings and tongue-lashings from well-meaning magistrates may not be enough, another approach is long overdue. It would be a resounding credit to Sydney’s collective soul if we could nurture O’Keefe’s salvation, saving a proverbial lost sheep apparently hell-bent on self destruction. With supporters like Max Markson and the people of Sydney valuing their special memories of the once popular television star, hope must surely spring eternal. With New Year’s resolutions abounding, now is surely timely for us all to wish him back on track. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 4Jan2025
