Peter Dutton’s demise was due to a number of factors but perhaps his commitment to harshly restricting immigration was resented personally by many migrant voters across the nation. As citizens from a wide range of nationalities fuse into our Australian culture, their goal on arrival of hoping for a better life is surely on the basis of us not marginalising them, leaving them free to live their best lives as they reach their true potential. No doubt, we collectively benefit from their contributions. Teenager Gout Gout embodies much of the immigrant dream and hopefully proves a great role model to a first generation of migrant Australians that anything can be achieved when we are at our best and treated as one (“Gout the great has aura of Warnie”, DT, 8/5).
