Lucy Zelic is right to identify that there was widespread community dissatisfaction during the Covid pandemic, especially among those ordered to enforce the health mandates within the police force (“Sovereign citizens are creatures of our making”, DT, 4/9). Many sacked nurses refusing the vaccine have not returned to the now depleted workspace in our hospitals. However, widespread unhappiness was not uniform, with many recognising the need for sacrifice for the greater good. Lives were saved by our conformity. Sovereign citizens might choose to disregard some rules but there is no justification for murder in their inapt crusade to correct historical wrongs. Dezi Freeman is a cowardly murderer, undeserving of his picture being paraded in the streets of Adelaide. There is nothing heroic or valorous in his life story.
