News that paracetamol has not been confirmed as a cause of ADHD. autism or intellectual disability must be a boost for the pharmaceutical companies who might otherwise be facing massive law suits (“Pain pill doesn’t turn kids autistic”, ST, 18/1). Congratulations to those conducting the meta-analysis in the UK, using the best studies to bring relief to anxious mothers who deserve to have their concerns addressed with urgency. Prior studies that concluded that there was a cause-effect relationship should have been resolved earlier. US President Trump and his Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy were right to publicise the issue, ensure the medical community addressed women’s concerns, and they can now ensure funding is increased to search for more likely culprits predisposing to the obvious increase in ADHD and autism. Science has always welcomed those challenging the status quo, proving unlikely outcomes to be true and ensuring best practice.
