I am one of the many fans angry with the eviction of Damien Thomlinson from the reality show Survivor. (Fans fume over true survivor sent home, 7/8). Damien was absolutely outstanding with a history of war service in Afghanistan. I was so impressed by his story. He lost both legs in a landmine attack. The fact that he was courageously displaying his unfortunate fate to the world was admirable. His ethical stature and integrity made him the winner for just being there, in my opinion. But he was voted out. For those miserable, selfish competitors to dispense with a person of his calibre made me totally ashamed to be an Australian. That he wanted to integrate and share his life story with the Australian public was the best way to promote inclusiveness and acceptance of our differences. Those who discarded an amazing young man such as Damien made me feel sick. Our society needs to focus on the values of unselfishness, commitment, personal sacrifice and decency. Damien embodied all of these qualities in bucket loads. If the takeaway message of this show is to win at any cost, then it is fermenting a poison that is completely unworthy of the Australian spirit and our collective appeal for a fair go. With Damien gone, I will no longer be watching. What an absolute disgrace. I salute Damien. A true hero.  Alan Sexton. North Parramatta. 8Aug2018.
