With 10 early governors of  NSW domiciled in Old Government House in Parramatta Park, noisy convicts down in Sydney Cove (rattling their chains, complaining loudly during the occasional whipping and berating their overcrowded accommodation,) were well clear of earshot. (Downton crabby, 4/10). It seems that Sydney is still steeped in a near acoustic apocalypse for the sensitive ears of our precious governor today – Margaret Beazley. Traumatised by his wife’s death at the gates of Parramatta Park in 1847, Sir Charles Fitzroy abandoned the Parramatta residence. While an obvious over-reaction, the current dilemma with Governor Beazley offers an opportunity to correct this historic wrong by relocating her domicile to its proper place on the banks of the mighty Parramatta River. With this long overdue shift, she will find the blissful solitude, beautiful walking tracks, fenced precincts and her iconic address exactly what the doctor ordered to manage her stress and noise intolerance. Parramatta in 2022, is a great place to be, and I hate the thought of our governor missing out. And those $162k rugs are easily rolled up. Alan Sexton, North Parramatta 19Oct2022.
